Folk Musician and Activist Pete Seeger (2006) Dies at 94
After a life sharing the music of the American tradition and drawing attention to pressing environmental issues, Pete Seeger has died at the age of 94.
Whether touring university auditoriums or campaigning as an advocate for environmental responsibility, Seeger’s commitment was unwavering. He strongly believe that folk music was a vital element of American culture, and strove to preserve its integrity over the course of his career. In each of his countless performances, at labour rallies, festivals, and even the ideacity stage, his desire to bring folk music and its messages to all audiences was described as both a personal point of pride and an inspiration to those lucky enough to witness it.
As a member of the Weavers, Seeger’s early career re-introduced the genre that would both catalyze cultural movements of the 1950s and directly influence those of the following decades. He released over 100 albums over the course of his career, each one contributing and maintaining what he saw as the continuum of America’s folk tradition.
