LORD CHRISTOPHER MONCKTON – Global Climate Scam
Over his long career, Sir Christopher Monckton has played the part of businessman, newspaper editor, inventor of the million-selling Eternity puzzles, and “high priest” of climate skepticism. He served as a Downing Street domestic and science policy advisor to Margaret Thatcher and in 1986, was among the first to advise the Prime Minister that “global warming” caused by CO2 should be investigated. He’s since changed his tune, however, and now frequently makes waves with his insistence that the impacts of global climate change aren’t as cataclysmic as the scientific community warns. Whether you’re a fellow skeptic or unconvinced by the words of climate change naysayers, this talk is sure to spark some lively discussion. MORE…
LAURA DEKKER – Around the World in 518 Days
To say that 18-year-old Laura Dekker was destined for a nautical lifestyle is an understatement. Born at sea off the coast of New Zealand, the young Dutch sailor (who owned her first boat at the age of six) turned heads and ignited imaginations in 2009, when she first announced her plan to circumnavigate the earth’s oceans on a solo voyage. Less than a year later she set sail, and on Jan. 21, 2012, officially became the youngest individual to achieve that feat. Since then, she’s continued to sail both on her own, and with larger crews, and we’re looking forward to her stories and lessons learned from her months and years spent on – and off – the water. PAVLO – Mediterranean Maestro
“Have the courage to do what you love, and the drive to do it well.” These were the words a good father once spoke to his aspiring son, and in the years since then, Pavlo has proven that he took that advice to heart. Fusing the spirit and styles of traditional Greek folk music with Latin and pop elements, this Canadian born virtuoso musician has succeeded in bringing the sounds of his family’s Mediterranean roots to audiences around the world. With two gold certified albums under his belt, and a pair of Juno nominations, Pavlo has continued to tour, letting the passion and vibrancy of his instrumental music speak to audiences from all backgrounds. JIMMY BOWSKILL – Killer Guitar Player
When Jimmy Bowskill first graced the ideacity stage in 2004, he’d recently won that year’s Indie Award for Best Blues Artist, Colin James had called him “the most natural singer” he’d ever heard, and his debut CD had received rave reviews. The most amazing thing about him, though, was his age – at the time, he was only 13. Since then, Jimmy’s continued to tour and record extensively with his band. Credited with bringing new life to the blues, and a deft hand to rock guitar, his ability to transcend genre and electrify a crowd is a phenomenon best witnessed in person – and something this year’s ideacity audience can look forward to experiencing firsthand.
