ideaCity10 June 16th, 17th & 18th: Third Round of Speakers Announced!

This newsletter is loaded! We’ve got speakers, we’ve got sponsors, we’ve got swag galore. Read on and discover all the reasons you need to justify attending ideaCity 2010, June 16, 17 & 18 at Toronto’s stunning Koerner Hall.

Here are the next ten speakers – we’re up to 30. Just 20 more to go.

SALLY ARMSTRONG – Human Rights Activist

Internationally renowned author, documentary filmmaker and human rights activist, Sally has covered stories worldwide about women and children whose lives have been forever changed by civil conflict. From Bosnia and Somalia to Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, her eyewitness reports have twice earned her the Amnesty International Media Award. In 1998, she was made a Member of the Order of Canada.

ASZURE BARTON – Visionary Choreographer

Ballet legend Mikhail Baryshnikov made the Edmonton-born and National Ballet School-trained Aszure the inaugural artist in residence at his Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York. Since then, she and her company Aszure Barton & Artists have catapulted into the contemporary dance limelight with their quirky, quicksilver, unpredictable movements that always astonish.

BONNIE BROOKS – Retail Messiah

EVERYWHERE could be The Bay’s tagline. Their ingenious 2010 Olympic sponsorship had our entire nation in red mittens. There-launch of The Room in Toronto attracted the attention of a Hollywood premiere. Many have tried before Bonnie, but to her alone goes the gold medal for reinventing Canada’s oldest department store.

JUDITH DUPRE – Cultural Historian

Judith’s books Skyscrapers and Bridges examine the ideals and dreams of the society that created the most significant landmarks of the last century. Her interaction of text and image brings the economic, cultural, and political role of each structure – and builder – to life.

SYLVIA EARLE – Deep Ocean Explorer

A National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence, Sylvia has been called "Her Deepness" by The New Yorker, "Living Legend" by the Library of Congress, and "Hero for the Planet" by TIME. For 40 years, she’s been at the forefront of deep ocean exploration including leading the first all-female team to live underwater. Upon their return to the surface she received a ticker-tape parade and White House reception!

DIANE FRANCIS – National Post Editor-at-large

From Goldman Gate to the Greek economy, National Post readers can rely on Diane for her incisive analysis on current business affairs. Diane is also a Huffington Post blogger, and author of such best-selling titles as BRE-X: The Inside Story, Controlling Interest: Who Owns Canada?, and the 2008 follow-up Who Owns Canada Now?, a guidebook to the concentration of power in Canada.

ANNE GRAHAM LOTZ – AnGel Ministries Founder

When it comes to the family business, Anne, daughter of Rev. Billy Graham and founder of AnGel Ministries, has become a force all her own. Since 2000, her Just Give Me Jesus women’s revivals have packed stadiums worldwide with those who come to hear her preach God’s word. The New York Times has called Anne one of the five most influential evangelists in the US.

FAITH POPCORN – Futurist, CEO & Founder of BrainReserve

If you knew everything about tomorrow, what would you do differently today? For over four decades, through BrainReserve and her best-selling books The Popcorn Report, Clicking and EVEolution, Faith has shown how to make friends with the future, identifying such trends as the Starbucks coffee culture and the explosion of MySpace.

MARGARET RACE – Planetary Protector

Margaret is a Mars Specialists in the SETI Institute’s Center for the Study of Life in the Universe. Her work focuses on preventing harmful planetary cross-contamination as future space missions to Mars and beyond bring home an increasing number of extraterrestrial samples for study in terrestrial laboratories.

DR. SHANNA SWAN – Disappearing Male Expert

Shanna is an expert in environmental chemicals and human health. Her landmark studies have shown that the phthalates contained in plastic baby toys, furniture, vinyl flooring and PVC shower curtains, can lead to a variety of hormonal disorders in boys including genital abnormalities and general "de-masculinisation".

At Koerner Hall, our beautiful new venue, we have more lobby space than ever overlooking Toronto’s Bloor Street. That means more interactive displays, more snacks, and a bigger bookstore! Some of our sponsors include Steelcase (for your comfort during extended schmooze breaks), Panasonic (their new 3D TVs will amaze), Apple (try the new iPad Tablet!), ROOTS (you’ll love this year’s bag), Starbucks (enviro tumblers for all), Shahale Snacks (nutty, crunchy goodies), Yogalicious (probiotic frozen yogurt), AVEDA (massage and aroma therapy stations), plus, plus, plus …
