MARGARET ATWOOD – 140Character Best-Seller

Canadian literary legend Margaret Atwood lovesTwitter. In 2009, she was advised to participate in the social networking phenom. After ousting the two illegitimate "Margaret Atwoods" from the site, she swiftly attracted 50,000 followers who devour her daily Tweets. If anyone could win a Giller for a 140 character masterpiece, it’s Margaret!

BRIGITTE BERMAN -Documentary Filmmaker

Oprah presented Brigitte Berman with an Oscar. She’s made hundreds of documentaries, most recently Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist and Rebel. Brigitte spent three years pouring over Hef’s scrapbooks to create her film, which shows the difference between the man with "the pipe and robes" and the out spoken activist who used Playboy as a tool to spread his message of civil rights and freedom of speech.

NONIE DARWISH – Muslim Apostate

Nonie Darwish is an Egyptian-American human rights activist, founder of Arabs For Israel, and Director of Former Muslims United. Nonie contends that few in the West know the global implications of Islamic Law, and that media like CNN subjects North Americans to the same misinformation that she grew up with inside the Muslim world.

TAN LE – Thought-controlled Gaming Headset

Tan Le is behind Epoc Headset, the mind-controlled device that picks up brain electrical activity and allows users to manipulate a virtual environment just thinking about it! Emotiv will have a profound impact on 3D Internet and the future of virtual communication.

SANDRA TSING LOH – The LohLife

Sandra Loh is an LA-based author, performance artist, radio commentator, and contributor to The Atlantic. Her focus: parenting, family and modern life’s absurdities. Her moment: admitting to cheating on her husband after 20 years…and writing about it. Marriage stinks! Sandra will tell us why.

NATALIE McLENNAN – Author

With a passion and talent for acting and dreams of success, she studied theatre at Montreal’s Dawson College and at the age of 20 flew directly to New York to "make it all happen". She performed on some great off-broadway stages, enjoying some success, but then was offered a different role: to be an escort at the city’s top agency. She cautiously accepted and quickly rose to the top of her new profession, making upwards of two thousand dollars an hour. However, her life quickly spun out of control until she found herself alone and locked in a cell.

SOPHIE MORGAN – DisabilityRights Activist

Six years ago, a car accident left the young and vivacious Sophie Morgan paralyzed and in a wheelchair. In 2009, she was one of eight women to compete on the groundbreaking reality show Britain’s Missing Top Model for a shot at becoming a professional model. The series served as the catalyst for IMPERFECT, Sophie’s high-profile campaign to challenge discrimination against people with disabilities.

CLEO PASKAL – Climate Change Expert

Cleo Paskal’s book Global Warring: How Environmental, Economic, and Political Crises Will Redraw the World Map, was called "the first comprehensive view of the real consequences of environmental change". She’s also written an Emmy Award-winning TV doc series, penned a popular Travel column for the National Post, and won ten major travel writing awards including the prestigious Grand Prize from the North American Travel Journalist’s Association.

LARA ST. JOHN & POLKASTRA

The New York Times called the musicianship on their debut CD Apolkalypse Now "First-Rate". Internationally renowned Canadian violinist Lara St. John leads Polkastra, an eclectic cast including a folk fiddler, the Met’s contrabassoonist, an Israeli accordionist/percussionist, a jack-of-all-trades bassist, and a French Horn playing record store clerk for a virtuosic exploration of the roots of polka.

ADORA SVITAK – Tiny Literary Giant

At seven, the staggeringly prolific Adora Svitakwrote 250,000 words of fiction and poetry, including her first book Flying Fingers. That year, she appeared on Good Morning America, and was called "The World’s Cleverest Child". She’s out to prove that age has nothing to do with your capacity to change the world. The next time someonecalls you "childish", you’ll be proud.
