Session 4 – Singularity University
Closing out today’s session was Singularity University, starting with Tasha McCauley and her telepresence robots. These robots are changing the way we view communication and will change every field we work in. The prototype of this robot was basically a Roomba with an inverted lampshade to help support the tablet on top. Using open source software, they are able to have many minds working together and are discovering many different ways of using a robot that we’ve never even thought of.
Next on the docket was Antony Evans, and his idea to creative DIY synthetic bioluminescent lights or in other words glowing trees and roses. Antony started a kickstarter initiative to get his DIY bio project running and it has taken off, creating a new revolution. Why use a lightbulb when you can use a tree instead and build sustainable lighting?
Following up Antony, was a video on Matternet Drones and their work in developing countries. A billion people live in isolated areas from roads and trains, the drones are able to deliver them relief such as medication. The device, which is similar to a small four wheeled hovercraft, is able to carry medication to areas in need; definitely an important topic. Hopefully these drones will help put developing countries at the beginning of the next paradigm shift.
Finally closing out the day was the Dixie-Jazz musical styling’s of the Boxcar Boys. They got the crowd up and dancing, and led everyone to the opening night after party at Spice Route.
Well, that closes out Day 1, hope everyone enjoyed themselves and will enjoy the after party tonight. See you all tomorrow!
