Eleven-year-old Ariel Kwan began her musical studies of the piano at the age of four, and violin at the age of five. She is currently a scholarship student at the Royal Conservatory of Music where she studies piano at the ARCT (Association of the Royal Conservatory of Music) level and violin at the Grade 10 level. Over the past five years, Kwan has won numerous top awards and scholarships at various competitions including the Toronto Kiwanis Music Festival, the Markham Music Festival and the Canadian Music Competitions.
She has also performed at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, Toronto Winterfest, Toronto Harbourfront and the Glenn Gould Studio. In 2003, Kwan was invited to perform for Madame Chrétien and other dignitaries at the annual DAREarts awards banquet, and she took part in Canstage’s Toronto production of Amadeus, where she opened each show (total of 33) with a performance of a Mozart Piano Sonata. This past December, she was one of the featured performers at First Night Toronto’s Children for Peace concert at the Skydome and is currently contemplating representing Canada at the Horowitz International Piano Competition in Kiev in 2005.
