Singer/song-writer Big Rude Jake is a distinguished figure on the Canadian music scene with a notable presence around the world. A deft craftsman of song, a compelling lyricist and a genuine “Blues belter,” he has been knocking audiences dead for over almost 20 years.
Jake was drawn to Jazz for it’s history of sensuality. Hoping to pioneer a return to emotionally charged performances among jazz singers, Jake was inspired to create a rough-hewn stage persona, evocative of strident passion and longing. Hence his provocative stage name.
Jake’s latest CD is called Quicksand, and features songs that borrow heavily from a variety of traditional American populist music genres, including Blues, Jazz and Gospel. Jake will be performing at ideaCity with his band, the Quicksand Combo, and can be seen in select venues working with his Jazz Quartet, his swing band, and, quite often as a solo performer.
