One of Canada’s foremost criminal lawyers, Edward L. Greenspan, Q.C., LL.D. has been involved in some of the country’s most high-profile cases during his 31 years of courtroom practice. He has worked on the murder cases of both Toronto developer Peter Demeter and Helmuth Buxbaum, and the sexual assault trial of former Nova Scotia premier Gerald Regan, who was later acquitted. Greenspan is the senior partner of the Toronto law firm of Greenspan, Henein and White.
He has been practicing in Toronto since 1970 and received his Queen’s Counsel in 1982. In 1987, he co-authored his autobiography, Greenspan: The Case for the Defence, with television producer and journalist George Jonas.
He was also the host of the television program “The Scales of Justice” on CBC from 1991 to 1994. He is the editor-in-chief of the most widely used annotated Criminal Code of Canada, co-editor of Martin’s Related Statutes and Martin’s Ontario Criminal Practice, and editor-in-chief of The Canadian Criminal Case. He is also a vice-president of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association.
