Julie Angus

In 2006, Julie Angus became the first woman to row across the Atlantic Ocean from mainland to mainland.  National Geographic Adventure named her and her partner, Colin Angus, Adventurer of the Year and her book Rowboat in a Hurricane became a national bestseller.

After experiencing the impact global warming, overfishing and pollution has had on the ocean, Angus spoke to thousands of students at elementary and high schools about the importance of environmental stewardship.

Two years later, Angus and her husband rowed and cycled 7,000 km from Scotland to Syria to connect their ancestral homelands and explore the lands in between. They detailed the journey in the book Rowed Trip. This August she will be sailing from Spain to Syria to research her upcoming book Olive: Corruption, Miracle Cures, and a Search for the Origins of the Fruit that Changed the World.

Julie Angus has a M.Sc. in Molecular Biology from the University of Victoria and before becoming an adventurer and author, she had a career in biotechnology.
