Peter Jennings

For 35 years, Peter Jennings has covered many of the pivotal events that have shaped the last half of the century, including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the civil rights movement in the United States, the Vietnam War and the struggle for equality in South Africa.

As the anchor and senior editor of “World News Tonight” since 1983, Jennings tells North Americans about the world’s challenges each evening, from the crisis in Bosnia to health and education issues.

In 1995, The Boston Globe noted “the passing of Edward R. Murrow’s mantle to Peter Jennings.” Before his role as an anchor, he was the chief foreign correspondent for ABC News and the foreign desk anchor for “World New Tonight.” “Peter Jennings Reporting,” his series of one-hour primetime specials that began in 1990, have earned numerous awards, and has dealt with issues such as gun control policy in America, the crisis in Haiti and the politics of the tobacco industry.
