Sam Harris is the author of 2004’s The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason, described by The Economist as a book that “will strike a chord with anyone who has ever pondered the irrationality of religious faith and its cruel, murderous consequences” and by The New York Times as a work that fiercely and fearlessly “articulates the dangers and absurdities of organized religion”.
Harris is a graduate in philosophy from Stanford University and is now completing a doctorate in neuroscience at UCLA.
He became interested in the brain through his study of the philosophy of the mind and after practicing meditation, in a variety of forms, for many years. He is now studying the neural basis of belief, disbelief, and uncertainty with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).
