Daisy Van Der Schaft

Daisy van der Schaft is assistant professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. She works at the Department of Biomedical Engineering in the group of Soft Tissue Biomechanics & Engineering.

Van der Schaft’s current research focuses on cardiac and skeletal muscle tissue engineering and the application of stem cells.  A special interest is in the improvement of vascularisation of engineered tissues in order to obtain larger tissues than currently possible, ultimately for the purpose of transplantation.

Van der Schaft studied (Biological) Health Sciences at the University of Maastricht, the Netherlands and she obtained her PhD at the University of Maastricht in 2002. Subsequently, she was a postdoc at the University of Iowa, investigating vasculogenic mimicry in tumors. In 2007 she joined a research group at Eindhoven University of Technology and shifted her research focus to molecular imaging using MRI, before joining her current research group in 2008.
