Patrick Chappatte has been editorial cartoonist for the International New York Times since 2001. He contributes to Swiss newspapers Le Temps and Neue Zürcher Zeitung. Patrick has also pioneered comics journalism, with over 30 stories including war in Gaza, Arab spring in Tunisia, gang violence in Central America, and has produced an animated documentary, “Death in the field” (2011).
Chappatte co-founded the Geneva-based Foundation “Cartooning for Peace”, whose honorary chairman is Kofi Annan, establishing an international prize to recognize cartoonists for their courage. He’s also leading “Crossed Pens” projects involving editorial cartoonists in conflict-ridden countries, aiming to foster a dialogue on human rights through cartoons.
Born in 1967 in Pakistan to a Lebanese mother and a Swiss father, raised in Singapore and Geneva, Patrick lives between Los Angeles and Geneva.
