Back to School with ideacity Part 1 – Space

08/09/2015

In this four week series, the ideacity team is going to be taking you Back to School with lesson plans focused on unique and interesting topics that have been raised over the past 16 years at ideacity. In this first week of the series we are going up up and away into Space with these three featured talks.

Our first speaker joins us from 2014, the second man on the Moon, Buzz Aldrin joined us along with son Andy Aldrin and Bob Richards to discuss Moon Express. In his video talk Buzz discusses how the private sector might be the key to unlocking settlements on Mars. Son Andy Aldrin and Bob Richards go on to discuss how the private sector would like to land on the moon to explore new wonders. Watch their talk and learn all about exploring the moon

A topic that has been hot in the news recently is the development of space elevators. Simply put, an elevator that could take you from the earth straight up into space. In 2014 we were lucky enough to be joined by Dr. Bradley Edwards co-founder of Plasma X and possibly one of the first viable space elevators. Watch his talk here as he explains the technology behind building a functional space elevator and what it could mean for space travel.

Our final speaker is Darlene Lim who joined us back in 2004. With a PhD in Environmental Geology from the University of Toronto, specializing in limnology and paleolimnology, Lim is a geobiologist and science promoter who is based at the NASA Ames Research Center and the SETI Institute. Watch her talk here and learn more about Lim’s search on finding life on Mars.

In each of these respective speakers talks they are pushing the boundaries of space exploration and thinking outside of the box. If you want to learn more about space, visit our video archives and see our whole back catalogue of space talks.

Keep watching next week, as our second instalment of Back to School with ideacity features Animals.
