Douglas Coupland discusses Canadian identity

2010, Cultural Studies
Presented By: Douglas Coupland

Canadian author Douglas Coupland and Michael Budman of Roots Canada discuss their “incredible, amazing” collaboration on a clothing line that offers new interpretations of the Canadian identity. Rather than focusing on the traditional Roots romance with the Canadian wilderness, Douglas Coupland wanted to create something futuristic, referencing the digital age, and have the youth of today feeling good about tomorrow when they put on that new jacket, shirt or boot. He calls the collaboration, “a remarkably uncynical process the whole entire time.”
